Complete guide

Spectators

Grandparents, an uncle, a godparent, a coach: they follow your player as read-only, get a summary after every game, and never change anything. Here is how it works, and how a spectator differs from an account member.

At the top, the people who track the game in the app. At the bottom, the people who follow it, wherever they are: the phone in big brother's pocket, mom's computer at work, his aunt's watch. They cannot change anything.

Three ways to be in an account

The question comes up a lot: 'Should I invite them as a member or as a spectator?' A member tracks with you. A spectator watches. Everything else follows from that.

Owner

The person who created the account and holds the subscription. They decide everything.

Invited member

The other parent, a friend, a relative who tracks games with you. They use a seat on your plan.

Spectator

Someone who only wants to follow. They track nothing, use no seat, and spectators are unlimited.

Inviting a spectator, step by step

One link, one request, your approval. The person sees nothing until you accept.

  1. Step 1

    Create the link

Settings, 'Account members', Spectators section: tap 'Invite a spectator' and check the players to follow. The link lasts 14 days and works for the whole family, not just one person.

  2. Step 2

    Send it

By text, email or in the family group chat. Once is enough: grandma, the uncle and the godparent all use the same link.

  3. Step 3

    The person sends a request

They open the link, create a free account or sign in, write their name as you will see it, and choose whether they want the summary of each game.

  4. Step 4

    You accept

The request shows up in 'Account members'. The owner or an invited member accepts or declines it. Once accepted, the person sees the player right away. A request left unanswered expires after 14 days.

What a spectator sees

The spectator opens RinkLog on their phone or computer and lands right on the players they follow.

  • The 'You follow' screen, with each followed player and direct access to their profile.
  • The Stats and Charts tabs of the profile, with their last ten games.
  • The live feed during a game, and a notification on every goal with the app installed.
  • An account switcher if they follow several families: one tap to go from one to the other.

What they never see

  • Private notes, or notes left on shifts.
  • Photos, report cards and goals.
  • A button to edit, delete or track anything.

The summary after every game

The grandparents' favourite: a few minutes after the game, a clear email that tells the story of the player's game, without having to open the app.

It sends itself
As soon as the result is saved, or 30 minutes after the end if nobody enters it. A sheet entered by hand also triggers the summary, if the game is from the last two days.
Once per game
Fixing the sheet afterwards sends nothing: nobody gets three versions of the same game.
What it contains
The score, the highlights, ice time at even strength, on the power play and on the penalty kill, the period by period table, the full game sheet, and a comparison with their average over the last 10 games.
What it never contains
No photo of the player and no notes. Comparisons are never shown in red: we follow progress, without the pressure.
Who sends it
noreply@rinklog.com, in the spectator’s language. Nobody reads replies: to reach the family, they go through the family, as usual.

You stay in control

Turn off the summary

A 'Summary' switch next to each spectator, in 'Account members'. The spectator can also unsubscribe in one click from the email.

Remove a spectator

At any time, in one tap. They lose access right away, without an email.

One more player

An accepted spectator who asks to follow another player does not see them automatically: the 'Also asks to follow' line waits for your approval.

Back to the free plan

Spectators are suspended, nothing is deleted. They get their access back as soon as the account returns to a paid plan.

The spectator leaves

They can stop following on their own, from 'Account members', without asking anyone.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a member and a spectator?

An invited member tracks games with you and uses a seat on your plan. A spectator tracks nothing: they follow as read-only, get the summary of each game and use no seat. Spectators are unlimited with paid plans.

Does the spectator have to pay?

No. They create a free account to send their request. Your paid plan is what makes spectators possible.

How many spectators can I accept?

As many as you want, with Premium, Franchise or Club. They take none of the seats reserved for invited members.

Who accepts the requests?

The account owner and the invited members. A spectator can never accept another one.

Can the follow link be used by several people?

Yes. It lasts 14 days and works for the whole family. Each person who opens it sends their own request, and you accept them one by one.

What does the spectator get after a game?

An email from noreply@rinklog.com with the score, the highlights, ice time by situation, the period by period table and the player's full game sheet. Never a photo or a note.

How do I stop the email summary?

The spectator clicks 'Stop receiving these summaries' at the bottom of the email. You can also turn it off yourself with the 'Summary' switch next to their name.

Does the spectator see private notes or photos?

No, never: no private notes, no shift notes, no photos, report cards or goals. They see the stats, the charts, the games and the live feed.
