Worked example
Of 30 shots faced, 10 come from the slot and the goalie stops 8: HDSV% = 80%. His overall 93% SV% hides that the other 20 shots were routine.

What is HDSV%?
HDSV% (high-danger save percentage) is the save percentage computed only on high-danger shots, the ones from the slot, point-blank or off odd-man rushes. It isolates a goalie's performance on the toughest chances instead of averaging them in with routine shots.
How is HDSV% different from overall SV%?
Overall SV% includes every shot faced, easy and hard alike, so a goalie behind a strong defense can post a high SV% while rarely being tested. HDSV% strips out the easy shots and shows performance only on the shots that actually threaten to score.
