Which stats should you track at U7-U9 hockey?

At U7-U9, useful statistics measure participation and fun, not performance: games played, shifts taken, shots attempted and little firsts (first goal, first assist). Scoring rankings and kid-to-kid comparisons do more harm than good at this age.

The real gift of tracking at this age is not analysis, it is memory: five years from now, looking back at the season of firsts is priceless. RinkLog keeps everything, and the board simplifies down to three or four buttons so the parent watches the game rather than the screen.

  • Games played and shifts: consistency of participation
  • Shots attempted: the courage to try, whatever the result
  • The firsts: first goal, first assist, first full game
  • To avoid: rankings, +/- and any kid-to-kid comparison

RinkLog measures and computes this statistic automatically during your hockey, ball hockey and ringette games.
