What is PDO in hockey?

PDO adds the team's chance-conversion rate and the save rate against opposing chances while the player is on the ice. Since both percentages mathematically regress to their mean, a PDO clearly above 100 signals a lucky stretch, clearly below an unlucky one.

Formula

PDO = team chance conversion % + save % on opposing chances (on-ice)

Its main use: do not panic and do not get carried away. A pointless player with a 94 PDO is probably running into bad luck: the play is good, results will follow. A red-hot player at 106 is riding a wave that will recede. PDO does not judge talent, it isolates variance.
