Worked example
A slot shot might be worth 0.25 xG, a point shot 0.03. A player accumulating 6.0 xG who scores 9 goals is outperforming their volume: their "Finishing" is excellent. With 6.0 xG and 3 goals, either bad luck will pass or finishing needs work.
For a goalie, the equivalent is GSAx (goals saved above expected): how many goals they prevented compared to what the danger of shots faced predicted. It is the fairest way to separate the goalie from the defense.
