What is the difference between shots on goal, missed and blocked?

A shot ON GOAL would have gone in without the goalie’s intervention (save) or does go in (goal). A MISSED shot goes wide or high, or hits the post. A BLOCKED shot is intercepted by an opposing skater before reaching the goalie. All three exist because they feed different statistics.

The most frequent confusion: counting a post as a shot on goal. It is not, and that mistake artificially inflates the opposing goalie’s SV%. In RinkLog, three distinct buttons remove the ambiguity and feed each statistic’s correct calculation automatically.

  • Goalie SV%: shots on goal only
  • Shooter iCF (Corsi): on goal + missed + blocked
  • Post with no goal: missed shot (the goalie stopped nothing)
  • Teammate deflection on net: shot on goal credited to the last toucher
